News & Updates

Cardholders are posting about the calls on X and Reddit today

HDFC Infinia holders are reporting calls today warning that their card could be downgraded or cancelled — and it's spreading fast on X and Reddit. Here's what's actually behind it.

What's changed

The ₹10 lakh spend rule for waiving the ₹12,500 fee still stands. What's new, from 1 April 2026, is a second, much higher bar for keeping the card at all: ₹18 lakh in annual spend across primary and add-on Infinia cards, or ₹50 lakh in Relationship Value. Clear either and you're fine. Clear neither, and HDFC says affected cardholders will be notified in 2027, with the card downgraded to another product or removed from the programme.

Why calls, not just emails

HDFC's confirmed channel is email. Today, though, cardholders are describing something more direct on X and Reddit: phone calls from relationship managers flagging the card as at risk. Forums like TechnoFino report the bank working through an internal list scored by spend, Relationship Value and usage — lounge-only and voucher-heavy accounts first, some reportedly given a tighter ask of ₹3 lakh spend within two months. None of this is confirmed HDFC policy — it's what cardholders receiving the calls are reporting. A call today isn't a cancellation notice; the review runs to March 2027.

If you don't clear either bar

Per terms communicated to cardholders: fees already paid aren't refunded, points transfer at what HDFC calls "best equivalent value" (mechanics unpublished), and concierge, Priority Pass lounge access, and every Infinia-exclusive perk end once the card closes.

Does this affect you?

What to do

  • Pull your actual FY2026–27 spend from netbanking — don't estimate.
  • Check combined Relationship Value if spend looks short of ₹18 lakh.
  • Don't self-downgrade off one call — ask the RM to confirm the ask in writing.
  • If neither threshold is realistic, start comparing alternatives now.

Frequently asked questions

Is HDFC actually cancelling Infinia cards right now?+

No. The card stays until the review at the end of FY2027 (31 March 2027). Calls or emails now are early warnings, not cancellation notices.

What are the two ways to keep HDFC Infinia?+

₹18 lakh in annual card spend, or ₹50 lakh in Relationship Value (combined SB/CA/FD/RD balance) with HDFC. Only one is required.

Why am I getting a call instead of an email?+

HDFC's confirmed channel is email, but cardholders report the bank calling low-usage accounts — lounge-only and voucher-heavy — first. Not officially confirmed as policy.

What happens to my reward points if Infinia is downgraded?+

HDFC says points transfer at "best equivalent value" but hasn't published the conversion mechanics. Paid fees aren't refunded, and Infinia-exclusive perks end with the card.
